Beautiful
I have been thinking about what it means to be beautiful. December of 2007, I decided to wear my hair all natural. Every nappy strand of it. My motto is and always have been "what others think of me is none of my business".
Real beauty comes from within. We spend way too much time working on our outward appearance than we do our inner appearance. (Don't get me wrong I love looking good too). Sometimes how we look on the outside camolflodge how we really feel about ourselves on the inside. We keep our hair immaculate, we wear designer shoes, we carry designers bags and we make sure every thing on the outside is in order. What about on the inside? What are you doing to really be the beautiful woman God created you to be? No pretense but simply beautiful inside and out. It dosen't matter whether you wear your hair curly or straight, sport designer or off the rack nor does it matter whether your skin is vanillla or brown, your looks are not the sum total of who you are.
Last year at our conference we went to a lot of trouble to leave positive affirmations within the reach of our guest so that they could see and begin to affirm thier own inner beauty and walk in it. Here's one I like:
"My creativity is my gift, as I am open to it, I will be led." Or "I am a wonderfully gifted and I am growing better every day."
Here's on e I wrote " Every day I wake up gives me an opportunity to start over and fix what I messed up yesterday."
Repeat your affirmations many times throughout the day to motivate yourself to grow, learn and experience the things you are passionate about. I too had to train my mind on what to think. Trust me everybody have negative thoughts at one time or the other. Throughtout the day you must be conscious of your thoughts and choose the ones you want and discard the one you dont want. "Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. " (Phillipians 4:8)
How do you change the negative things you say about yourself? Here are a few suggestions.
1. Treat yourself to personal time away from family and friends to do something that makes you feel happy and fulfilled at least once a week.
2. Keep a private journal and write in it faithfully everyday. Let the distractions, injuries, worries, plans, hopes and ideas flow from your brain to the paper. This will help to clear your mind, focus on what is positive and release ideas and beliefs that may be holding you back.
3. Take time regularly to go inward with meditation or prayer.
You are the Beloved of God!
