Abundant Living

The one thing I celebrate about my childhood is spending the summers at my Grandmothers house.  Every summer my grandmother would bring all the grandchildren to stay at the farm. It was our sanctuary.   I remember being scared to sleep in this moth ball smelling dark room with my Aunt Nookie.  Aunt Nookie was very old and liked sitting on the front porch eating persimmons every day.     We wouldn’t drink the water because the cat fell in the well and Grand Pa had to fish it out.   Back in the day there was no running water. We were chased by roosters, picked vegetables from the garden and all was right with the world.

I have decided to carry on this legacy for my Grandchildren.    I am just recovering from spending 17 days with two rambunctious Granddaughters, Lyric and Jazz.   Jazz will be two in September don’t like car seats and likes to repeat every thing her big sister says.  Lyric 5, loves to play base ball and puzzles.

We did every thing from sleep over’s, feeding goats, trips to the toy store, petting coy fish, playing games at the arcade, eating ice cream to riding chocolate Chip for the first time.  Of-course I don’t want to leave out there was more ice cream socials, more trips to the toy store, pizza parties and Bob’s oatmeal in bed every morning.

I don’t know how my grandmother did it but I can imagine she had to go into recovery after we all went home.  I know I am not made out of the stuff my grandmother was made out of but I am up for the challenge.  I want to build memories for my grandchildren so that when they grow up they will tell stories of being at MeMe’s and PaPa’s house for the summer.

Sounds like life for me has been a picnic?  Don’t think for a moment that the last few months for me have been without challenge.  I have endured personal melt downs and have felt exhausted from being battle weary. The enemy turns up the heat when there is a lot at stake.  The promise that God has destined for me and you causes the enemy to turn up the heat on our finances, health, marriage, the battle of the mind or what ever he can do to cause you to become distracted and discouraged.

Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we* are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly place (Ephesians 6-11-12).

I encourage you today. Set your mind on things above not on the things of this earth.  Some of you may be going through difficulty.  Some of you may be really feeling uneasy about world events. Jesus said “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”  John 16:33.  Laugh a lot, eat popcorn, watch late sunsets play with your children or gands and live the abundant life.
