Are we there yet?

Have you ever been on a long journey with a kid who kept asking the same question every fifteen minutes, “Are we there yet”?

On the journey of life I sometimes ask the same question, when am I going to get there.?

The journey of our lives takes many twists and turns.  Amidst the twists and turns you may wonder “am I going in the right direction”?  Then there are times when you become tired and worn out or just plain frustrated.

No matter what road you take whether it’s the road to financial freedom, a successful career, better marriage, better health , peaceor your God given purpose it is sometimes rocky.   There may be rejection, adversity, and difficult decisions.  People die, unwed daughters get pregnant, you may need to get a second job or a better job, you may need to let go of draining relationships, this is just a small laundry list of things we face on the journey to promise.   If you stay the course you will get there.  Don’t give up!

I have encountered at least four women in 2007 whose daughter’s unwanted pregnancy brought shame and embarrassment on the family.  They had to reposition their though process about their grandchild coming into the world.  God makes beauty from ashes!

In the last few years Alvin and I have had to walk some rocky roads.  This year alone we have had completely change our office administration.  The change turned out to be an absolute God send.  But we had to be bold enough  to try something new and different. If you keep doing the same thing the same way you will get the same results.

If Edison had given up in making the light bulb we may be still reading by candle light.
If Rosa Parks decided one day not go back to the back of the bus, we may still be giving up our seats.

If Martin Luther King did not fight against prejudice and injustice, people of color would still have to fight for their civil rights.
If Mother Theresa did not endure rejection from her church she would not be a “Woman of the World”.

Getting there takes the following:

  • Endurance –stay in the race.  Everyone starts out but every body doesn’t finish up.  Finish up!

  • Patience – Waiting the process out is key.  Making rash decisions will only get you further in the mire of life.

  • Vision – Hang on to your dream.  That thing God put in your heart.  The BIG IDEA, knowing where you want to go and what it is you want to accomplish.

  • Goal Setting – Make a plan.  Give your self time limits.  Don’t set unachievable limits.  Set 5 year parameters.

  • Long hours and hard work – You have got to do the work.  You have got to be good at what you do.  Study, practice, write, get up early, stay up late, plan, plot and scheme.  It will pay off.

One day you will look up and say praise God the journey was long but it was worth it.
