I Saw God!
Last year Laura, my helper for over 9 years, an atheist born in Russia ,came to work one Monday morning and the first thing out of her mouth was "I saw God". She began to tell me about a dream in which she saw God and He told her not to have fear anymore and that everything was going to be okay. Earlier that week she prayed to God, asking him to let her know if she was going in the right direction and making the right decisions in her life.
She said "I dreamed that I was running from someone bad and ended up at a loft where a man was sitting in a little chair. I could not see His face but I knew it was Him. He spoke through me. " Laura talked about the peace and the joy and the excitement she felt and wished it would never go away. It was at that moment that Alvin and I had the awesome opportunity to lead her to the Lord.
I received this email a week ago:
"Hi, My prayer request is for full restoration of all that was lost..... My relationship with the Lord has been very challenged and now I have a hard time trusting Him because I've experienced so much pain and loss. I know how I should feel & I even am called to minister to those who've suffered so, but now I've reached a point where I can no longer handle it & God is silent. Please pray for me for more faith, trust, restoration, and a stronger connection and relationship with God. "
I wanted to scream " God has not left you as the enemy would have you believe!"
As we journey though life there is so much vying for our attention that we are so easily distracted. We are surrounded by self condemnation, sickness, financial woes, lost jobs, kids out of control, broken relationships etc. These things can consume us. We forget that God is in control no matter how well or how bad things seem to be. Debbi Long, a friend of mine, said to me "God Uses Everything". God is at work even in your most difficult circumstances. He is the blessed controller of all things.
God wants us to see him. Set your affections on things above, not on things of this earth (Colosians 3:2). Why?. When I see God I know that I can win. I know through Him I can do anything no matter how difficult the circumstances are. I know that somehow all things will work together for my good according to God's divine purpose.
I believe when we become defined by the stuff we own, the work we do ,where we live and the people around us, instead of being defined by our heavenly Father who owns the world and everything in it, we will feel cast aside and forgotten when these things are lost or our lives seem off center.
When I find myself overwhelmed with concern about something and cannot sleep, I get up, get a cup of tea and sit by the fireplace and talk to my Father. Knowing he knows about every detail of my circumstance and nothing is hidden Him. Being transparent with God brings comfort and peace and he answers every time. Take your eyes off the circumstance and see God at work in it.
